If AAC feels overwhelming, you’re not alone.
Many children receive communication devices—but struggle to use them consistently in everyday life. Families, therapists, and educators are often left wondering:
With the right guidance, AAC can begin to feel more manageable—and more meaningful.

Many professionals and families feel unsure about:
As these pieces come together, supporting AAC begins to feel clearer—and more natural in day-to-day interactions.

AAC works best when it’s part of everyday routines—not just therapy.
Support focuses on:
The goal is to develop strategies that feel realistic and can be used right away.

Strong communication happens when everyone is involved.
When teams feel supported:
AAC can feel complicated—but it doesn’t have to stay that way.
Training and consultation are designed to support families, therapists, and educators in using AAC more effectively in real-world settings.
Support may include:
Services are individualized to fit the unique needs of each child and team.
Direct AAC services are available on a limited basis for individuals and families.
This may include AAC evaluations, therapy, and support with speech-generating devices, often coordinated alongside existing therapy teams to support consistency.

Support often starts with a consultation to better understand what’s working, what feels challenging, and where AAC use tends to break down.
From there, support may focus on:
Over time, AAC starts to feel less overwhelming—and more like part of everyday communication.
A free 15-minute consultation is available to talk through your situation, ask questions, and determine whether AAC support would be helpful.
No pressure—just a chance to talk through your questions and see if this feels like the right next step.
AAC is most successful when it feels natural—not forced.
Support is designed to feel collaborative and practical, so strategies align with real routines, real environments, and the people involved.
Often, the goal is not to introduce entirely new ideas—but to build on what is already happening and shape it into something more consistent and effective.
AAC is not just about having a device—it’s about knowing how to use it meaningfully in everyday life.
Support focuses on:
Over time, AAC becomes less of a separate activity—and more a natural part of daily life.

Receiving a speech generating device has made a meaningful difference in providing our child with the AAC communication support they need to engage with the world. We are so grateful for the support throughout this process, which has greatly enhanced our speech collaboration with the SLP.

-AAC Specialist

At the heart of this work is the belief that communication should feel natural, meaningful, and supported across everyday life—not just within therapy.
I’m Genevieve DeVeyra, a speech-language pathologist with doctoral-level training in AAC. I’ve worked with children with complex communication needs across both school and clinical settings.
Over time, what became clear is that success with AAC isn’t just about having the right device or strategies—it’s about how those strategies fit into real routines, real environments, and the people involved.
Much of this work is collaborative by design. The goal is often to support families, therapists, and educators in a way that feels intuitive—building on what’s already happening, so that AAC use grows naturally and consistently over time.
This approach has grown from both professional experience and working closely with teams who are navigating AAC in real life.
We provide in-person communication support services, including support for AAC and speech generating devices, in most homes, schools, clinics, and daycare centers throughout Harnett, Cumberland, Moore, and Lee Counties. Additionally, our speech collaboration and virtual services are available across North Carolina through licensed SLPs.
